Michael Hartnett

Michael Hartnett was born in County Limerick in 1941, and now lives in Dublin. As Seamus Heaney, winner of the 1995 Nobel Prize for Literature, has said of Hartnett: “He is one of the truest, most tested and beloved voices in Irish poetry in our time.” Author of many volumes, his celebrated declaration to write in Irish late in life has been something of a catalyst for other poets to follow suit. In 1990 he received the American-Ireland Fund Literary Award. His Selected and New Poems was published by The Gallery Press to wide acclaim.
