John Crutchfield received his Ph.D in English from Cornell University and is a founding member of the Blue Shift Theatre Ensemble. His poems and plays have appeared in a wide variety of journals, including The Southern Review, Seneca Review, and The Carolina Quarterly. His first collection of poetry is entitled Ventriloquies. In 1999, he received an Emerging Artist Grant from the Durham Arts Council and the La Napoule Residency Fellowship from the NC Arts Council. He teaches at Appalachian State University, where he helps to edit The Cold Mountain Review.
